Ms. Oregon State Leather 2010

Shelly Bishop

I would have never thought by walking into Embers on a Wednesday night, I would find my path. Looking up on stage and seeing a beautiful Leather Man drumming on a pretty boy, I felt the light bulb go on over my head. The next thing I thought was “Ooohhh I want to do that!”. From that moment I was searching to find someone who could show me more, and looking to find other like-minded people. Two weeks later that search was answered at gay pride when I found Badgirls and went to my first play party. It was then I knew I had found my place. At that moment I dove head first into serving my new found community.

I spent time offering my services whenever there was a need. Every thing from helping at different fundraisers, to moving dungeon equipment to stunt-bottoming for friends. I spent time serving on the board of Badgirls as secretary, and currently I am a founding member of Girls in Leather Service, Rose City, the sister club to the Boiys in Leather Service, Rose City. We are a service-oriented organization that volunteers our time and energy wherever we are needed. I had the honor of serving as Northwest Community Bootblack 2008. I have spent much of the last few years kneeling in the boot polish with the my fellow bootblacks servicing the leather/boot wear needs of our community. Over the course of the last 3 years I have also been allowed the honor to guest lecturer at numerous local kink events and Universities, speaking on topics such as BDSM, Polyamourous lifestyles, Leather lifestyles, etc.

For the last six years I have been owned, mentored, and trained by my Mamma. Our leather Clan continues to be instrumental in my growth as a leather woman . It has been said it takes a village to raise a child, my leather clan is proof of this. I have had the guidance of my entire Clan. Each member giving me his or her own unique perspective. I have been given the opportunity in my Clan to mentor others as well, teaching them some of the things that I have learned, as well as mentoring new bootblacks in our community.

My decision to run for Ms. Oregon State Leather was simple, I look up to many of our past title holders and consider many of them to be my role-models. They are men and women who represent the ideas I hold to be sacred truths about our community. I now feel that I have reached a place on my path where I would like to represent my community in a broader capacity. I find that my heart is content when I am serving both my family and my community.
